TRAVEL
We’re so excited to welcome you to Portugal for our wedding in September 2025! To help make your trip smooth and stress-free, we’ve gathered everything you need to know about traveling to Ericeira, a charming coastal town just outside Lisbon.
Entry & Visa Requirements
U.S. citizens can travel to Portugal visa-free for up to 90 days for tourism, so no visa is needed to attend our wedding in September 2025.
Just make sure your passport is valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from Portugal
— ideally through December 2025 — and has at least one blank page.
The new ETIAS travel authorization system won’t be in effect until late 2025, so you won’t need to worry about that for the wedding.
We recommend booking flights and accommodation early, as September is a busy season. Travel insurance and, if you plan to drive, an International Driving Permit are also good ideas.
Make sure to check the latest travel requirements for your country before booking your flight.

Arriving in Portugal
Please fly into Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS). It’s the closest international airport to Ericeira,
just about 45 minutes away by car - approx. 45 km / 28 miles.)

Getting to Ericeira
You can rent a car, book a private transfer, or take public transport from Lisbon to Ericeira.
Ride apps like Uber and Bolt also operate from the airport.
Flights
Lisbon has direct flights from major cities in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and South America.
We recommend booking flights between February and June 2025. It’s a popular travel season, so early booking is best.
Flying into Porto or Faro is possible, but Lisbon is the most convenient for reaching Ericeira.
What to Pack to visit Ericeira and Lisbon
Expect warm days and cooler evenings in September. Pack light clothing, swimwear, a jacket for the evenings,
and comfortable walking shoes (Ericeira has cobblestone streets!). Don’t forget sunscreen and sunglasses.
Currency & Payments
Portugal uses the Euro (€). Most places accept credit and debit cards, but it’s good to have some cash for smaller shops and cafés.
Tipping is appreciated but not required.
Phone & Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is available in most hotels and cafés. EU visitors can roam for free.
If you're coming from outside the EU, consider getting a local SIM card or eSIM for data.
Health & Safety
Portugal is safe and has excellent healthcare. EU guests should bring their EHIC card;
others should consider travel insurance. The emergency number is 112.
Time Zone
Portugal is in the Western European Time zone (UTC +1 in September) —
the same as London during daylight savings.
Language
The official language is Portuguese, but English is widely spoken in tourist areas like Ericeira.
Local Tips
Tap water is safe to drink, so bring a reusable bottle.
Ericeira is very walkable and full of amazing local businesses — support them if you can!
